Winter Tires

Explore Winter With Confidence

The loss of traction on ice or snow-covered roads may become critical for safety as the temperature drops below 7°C. At Jim Pattison Hyundai Coquitlam, we can make sure you get the correct set of winters tires with the best service from the team that knows your vehicle the best.

Benefits of Having the Right Tires

Unlock maximum performance with tires that offer better traction and stability.

Improved Stopping Distance

Stop Up to 42 Meters Faster

Winter tires are engineered to take on the challenges that winter driving presents in ways that all-season tires simply cannot. Winter tires could help you stop up to 42 meters faster in comparison to all-season travelling at 80 km/hr. Using AWD with all-season tires does not reduce winter stopping distance. Winter tires make the biggest difference when braking on snow and ice.

Stopping Distance

Tire Air Pressure

Cold temperatures can cause tire pressure to drop. Check your tire pressure at least monthly, especially when temperatures fall below 7°C. Underinflated tires reduce road contact, increasing the risk of skidding and loss of control.

Increased Control

Specialized Rubber Compound

Winter tires are designed to stay soft in temperatures below 7°C. The unique flexible rubber compound and deep groves improve surface grip giving you better control. While all-season tires use a stiff rubber compound and shallow grooves for optimized performance in warm weather.

Tires

Matching Winter Tires

We recommend using four matching winter tires with the same tread type and depth. At minimum, ensure you have two matching winter tires on your front axle, even with a 4x4. Mixing tires can compromise stability and should be avoided.

Types of Winter Tires

Mud + Snow

The M+S symbol indicates that a tire's treat pattern is designed for traction in mud and snow. While M+S tires are a excellent year-round option, they won't provide the same traction on snow and ice as dedicated winter tires.

3 Peak Mountain Snowflake

For city driving, 3-peak mountain snowflake tires are considered the best for winter. These tires have a specific tread pattern and rubber compound designed to provide excellent traction on snow and ice, reducing the risk of collisions. The 3-peak mountain snowflake symbol is a certification mark, indicating the tires have undergone rigorous testing and met strict standards for snow traction.

Avoid Driving Penalties

Avoid Driving Penalties on BC Provincial Highways

Effective October 1 until April 30, winter tires are mandatory on select British Columbia Provincial Highways. M+S tires with 3.5 mm tread is the minimum requirement. We recommend 3-peaked mountain/snowflake tires for optimal traction on snow and ice. Click here to learn more about designated winter tire & chain routes in British Columbia.
